Deer Meadow Farms Corn Maze & Hobby Farm
Deer Meadow Farms is Manitoba’s newest Corn Maze and Hobby Farm. Located on Vince and Liana Rattai’s property on Deacon road in the RM of Springfield, Deer Meadow Farms is just 5 minutes North of Winnipeg near Birds Hill Provincial Park. All five Rattai’s have all been working hard this year to get the Maze and Farm up and running. Brendan and Garret have been doing a lot of construction and Thalia has been looking after the animals, as well as doing some commercials.
The actual Corn Maze is just over 5 acres in size, which is both big enough and small enough at the same time. Completing the maze should take about an hour. This years corn maze is our best ever! The corn is taller, the design more intricate and the trails in the maze are longer, making things much more challenging. The Maze game also features a Hockey Trivia challenge. Find the hidden stations and answer the questions then find your way out. Simple. There is also a kids maze area near the front to make it easier on the parents of smaller children. The design is cut using a GPS system with the design loaded into a mobile device that is attached to the GPS and the mower or cutter being used.
The Hobby Farm features a Petting Zoo with animals you would find on most farms. A calf, sheep, goat, rabbits, chickens and ducklings are the main attractions for kids.
The Welcome Lodge is a Chalet style ticket booth that looks like it came from a mountain ranch or hide-a-way. The gorgeous high peaked roof, covered deck and log trusses on the front make this a particularly appealing place to purchase your tickets.
The Grain Barn is a concession stand that is done in a cute barn style, complete with a lean-to styled porch with covered deck, red paint, black roof and weathered boards and barn doors across the front.
The Country Market is a simple tent canopy with homegrown and organic vegetables for sale when in season. Deer Meadow Farms specializes in Sweet Corn, Zucchini, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Green Peppers and Squashes and other fresh items.
Other Attractions Include:
BunnyVille – This year we’ve expanded our petting zoo with a new place just for bunnies. Complete with Bunny Barn and a small town designed for bunnies, people of all ages will enjoy this new attraction.
Farmer Golf – No skill required! Play our crazy 9-hole Farmer Golf course as featured on The Amazing Race. Play around obstacles, through tunnels, under the cows, between the giant flowers and through the spider legs. This course is fun for all ages.
Themed for the 2010 World Cup of soccer, our game is played on 2.5 acres of natural turf with an oversized ball, club and holes, it’s a hit with kids and a Manitoba first.
Fort Frontier – Our re-designed maze made from tamarack log cuttings and recycled pallets is lots of fun. Kids and parents love trying to solve our large, permanent wood maze. Find the hidden words, unscramble and decode the secret message then find your way out. New secret messages to decode every year. Younger children can play Barnyard Bingo.
Petting Zoo – Kids absolutely LOVE our Farm Animals and Farm Animal babies! Our Hobby Farm and Petting Zoo is the perfect place to introduce children to the farm. Our Petting Zoo features lambs & sheep, goats & kids, calves, miniature horses, baby chicks and baby ducks. Children can learn about agriculture and food production as well as the very important role farm animals have in producing our food. You can even try Goat milking in season!
Pumpkin Patch– This year we’ve planted a pumpkin patch that you can meander through and pick your own pumpkins.
Choose from various types and sizes including white pumpkins, Jack-o-Lantern pumpkins, baking pumpkins and some really weird pumpkin.
Pick your own Pumpkin from the field (August until the first frost in September)
Pick your own from the Barn (anytime after the first frost through October or until we sell out)
Tipi Village – Our Tipi will make your visit an exceptional experience. Day time rentals are available for group use.
Tired Mountain – Our mountain of recycled tractor tires are stacked up and filled with sand.
Wild Game Preserve – Take a walk in our Wild Game Preserve and discover our wild side. Fallow Deer are an exotic species of deer that are smaller than our native white-tailed deer. They come in three color variations that include a cream-white color, reddish-brown with spots (that don’t disappear with age) and brown. Our Wild Game Preserve was started with the idea of teaching people about the wild side of the natural environment and how it differs from the domestic side.
Visitors may walk through our preserve and observe our Fallow Deer and feed the ducks at the ponds.
There is parking for 20-25 cars in the parking lot, with an overflow area.
Deer Meadow Farms promises to become a great place for relaxing and enjoying the great outdoors in a country style way. From the log furniture to the log rail fences, Deer Meadow Farms is rustic and charming and family friendly.
